What is insulating window film?

Insulating window film is a thin, transparent or lightly tinted film that we apply directly to the glass. The film contains a special metallic layer that reflects heat radiation back into the room. This means much less heat is lost through the glass in winter, and in summer the film partially blocks out the sun’s heat. It is a proven and cost-effective way to improve single-glazed windows without replacing them.

What type of glass does it work on?

Insulating window film is most effective on single-glazed windows — the type of window through which most heat is lost. Think of older homes, conservatories, skylights, sheds, garages and office spaces with single-glazed windows. It offers little added value on HR++ or triple-glazed insulating glass, as this glass already insulates well. We always give you honest advice on what the benefits are for your specific situation. In an office environment, sun-blocking film a popular alternative offering the same benefits.

Benefits of insulating window film

  • Less heat loss through single-glazed windows — a direct impact on your energy bill
  • Cooler in summer — the film also blocks some of the sun’s heat
  • Much cheaper than replacing the glass — payback period of around 1 to 2 years
  • No demolition work or disruption caused by building works — the film is applied to existing glass
  • Works all year round — insulating in winter, heat-reflective in summer Combine insulating film with window frame wrapping for a comprehensive energy-efficiency package for your windows.

Applications: where is it used?

Insulating window film is most commonly used in homes with single-glazed windows, conservatories that overheat in summer and are freezing cold in winter, skylights, garages and sheds, extensions and office spaces. It is also popular as a temporary or cost-effective solution whilst glass replacement is being planned. The film is available in transparent or lightly tinted versions, so that the amount of light entering and the view remain virtually unchanged.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

Is insulating window film worth it?
Yes, particularly for homes with single-glazed windows. The film reduces heat loss by up to 30% and also improves comfort in the summer by blocking out the sun’s heat. It offers little added value for HR++ glass — we’ll be honest with you about that.
Does insulating window film also work on double glazing or HR++ glass?
The effect is limited on standard double-glazed windows, as this type of glass already provides better insulation. We do not recommend using window film on HR++ glass: the combination of the coatings can cause heat build-up and, in extreme cases, damage to the glass. We always advise you based on your specific glazing situation.
How many degrees does insulating window film reduce the temperature by?
On single-glazed windows, insulating window film can noticeably improve the perceived temperature. In summer, heat-reflective window film keeps the house up to 7 to 8 degrees cooler. In winter, it significantly reduces the draughts coming in through the window.
How long does insulating window film last?
When fitted professionally and used under normal conditions, high-quality insulation film will last between 10 and 15 years. We use only premium brands that come with a guarantee.
Can I fit the window film myself?
It is possible to fit window film yourself, but professional fitting ensures a bubble-free, smooth finish that lasts much longer. Film that is fitted crookedly or contains air bubbles compromises both the insulation performance and the appearance.
Is the film transparent? Can I see straight through it?
Yes. Insulating window film is available in fully transparent versions, which leave the view virtually unchanged. There are also lightly tinted variants available. We’ll discuss this together during the consultation.
How much does it cost to have insulating window film fitted?
The cost depends on the number of windows, the type of glass and the film chosen. Request a no-obligation quote via our quote form for an exact, bespoke price.
How long is the payback period?
On average, you’ll recoup your investment within 1 to 2 years through lower energy bills, depending on the number of windows treated and your heating habits.
Do you deliver to our home as well?
Yes, we always come to your home. We operate throughout the Netherlands. Book an appointment using the quote form on our website.
How do I request a quote?
