Wheel Rims: Painting & Repair

Have your alloy wheels painted in a new colour or have damaged ones restored to their original condition.

A new look or repairs following damage

Wheels are your car’s calling card. Damaged, worn or dull-coloured wheels immediately attract attention — in a negative way. WrapBaas offers a comprehensive range of services for alloy wheels: from repairs following kerb damage and paintwork damage to a complete repaint or powder coating in a colour of your choice. Combine this with painted brake calipers for a complete and cohesive wheel look.

In 3 steps

How it works

1
Stap 1

Inspection & colour selection

We inspect the rims for damage, discuss your preferred colour and finish, and advise on whether to opt for spray painting or powder coating, depending on your situation and budget.

2
Stap 2

Dismantling & blasting

The wheel rims are removed from the vehicle, then sandblasted or sanded to remove the old paint and dirt and to prepare the surface.

3
Stap 3

Repair any damage

Superficial scratches and dents are filled, sanded and smoothed before the paint or powder coating is applied.

4
Stap 4

Spray painting or powder coating & delivery

The wheel rims are spray-painted or powder-coated in the chosen colour, finished with a clear top coat and refitted to the vehicle.

Spray-painting vs powder-coating wheel rims: what’s the difference?

When spray-painting wheel rims, liquid paint is applied, just as with bodywork spray-painting. This produces a smooth finish and is suitable for precise colour-matching or partial repairs. Powder coating is an oven-based process in which electrostatic powder is applied and baked — this produces an extremely hard, wear-resistant layer that is more resistant to stone chips and chemical cleaning agents. Both methods produce excellent results. WrapBaas will recommend the best method for your situation.

Repairing wheel rims after damage

Scratches, dents or damage caused by kerb scrapes are common types of wheel damage. WrapBaas repairs superficial damage by sanding, filling and repainting — after treatment, the wheel looks as good as new. Want to get your whole car in tip-top condition straight away? Then combine wheel repair with a car detailing treatment for a comprehensive result.

Popular wheel colours and finishes

Matt black is the most popular colour for alloy wheels. Gloss black, bronze metallic, gunmetal grey and white are also popular. We can paint alloy wheels in almost any colour — including an exact match to the colour of your car wrap for a sleek monochrome effect.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

How much does it cost to have alloy wheels painted?
Painting alloy wheels usually costs €50–100 per wheel for a standard colour, so €200–400 for a set of four. The price may be higher if damage repair is required or for complex colours and finishes. Powder coating is similar in price but more durable. Request a no-obligation quote.
Which is better: spray-painting or powder-coating alloy wheels?
Powder coating is more wear-resistant and offers better chemical resistance, but is not suitable for colour-matching with bodywork paint in special shades. Spray-painting wheel rims offers greater flexibility in colour choice and is quicker. For everyday use, we recommend powder coating; for bespoke colours, spray-painting.
Can all types of wheel rim material be treated?
Yes. We treat aluminium alloy wheels, steel wheels and forged wheels. Carbon fibre wheels require a special approach — please discuss this during the initial consultation.
How long do painted alloy wheels last?
Under normal use, professionally spray-painted or powder-coated wheels will last between 5 and 8 years. Regular exposure to harsh wheel cleaners or road salt accelerates wear and tear.
Will the wheel rims be removed?
Yes, for the best results, the wheels are removed from the vehicle. This makes it possible to treat the entire wheel, including the inside, and to fully repair any damage.
Can damaged wheel rims be repaired?
Yes. Superficial scratches, scuff marks and minor dents can be repaired before repainting. Deep structural damage (such as a bent wheel rim) requires mechanical repair by a specialist company — we will refer you to one if necessary.
Can I have just one wheel rim treated?
Yes. It is possible to have one or two rims repaired, but to ensure a consistent look, we always recommend a full set. If you want them to match your other rims, please bring one along as a reference.
How long does the treatment take?
Spray-painting wheel rims usually takes 1 to 2 working days for a full set. Powder coating takes slightly longer (2–3 days) due to the curing process.
Can I have my wheel rims painted in a different colour to the original?
Yes. A change of colour is actually a popular reason for having wheel rims painted. From the original silver to matt black, gunmetal or a colour of your choice — anything is possible.
